You Stay Out Of Your Life by Greg Johnson

Transcribed by Carl Scott, carldscott@yahoo.co.nz

(Note: In the step down from C to Am,
the fingering of the "G/B" chord = 020010)

Intro:
G C D x2

Verse 1:
         G
You just never can tell,
C D
who in the world you might meet
          G
But you remind me of a guy I saw,
C D
waving a 12-gauge shotgun up the end of my street
          G
And it's funny when you end up talking to people,
C D
all standing, all waiting in line
      G
And I saw you talk to that woman last night,
    C D
and I did too she bought me a glass of wine

Chorus 1:
              G
And she said "You stay out of your life and,
C D
and I'll stay out of mine"
      G
"If I ever break your heart, I hope you
C D
know I wouldn't break your mind"
          G
She said "You stay out of your life and,
C D
  I'll stay out of mine"
 G
"You pretend you're running late, and
C D
I'll pretend I'm just in time"
             C G/B Am
And when the sun come up, when the
C G/B Am G
sun come up, she was mine
C D
 Yeaahhh yeah yeah yeah, yeaahh
G C D
yeah, she was mine

Verse 2:
       G C
So, potholers, diggers, adventurers,
           D
and father figures
G
Leave a trail of string behind you,
         C
you look forward to the bar where the
               D
ships all run aground
                   G
And of course I've seen it happen before,
     C D
it's not a drop, it's more a gentle lower me down
    G
Ah, that was last night,

and the last night in town with a
C
guy I talked with the bad skin and the
D
permanent frown

Chorus 2:
             G
And he said "You stay out of your life and,
C D
 I'll stay out of mine"
        G
"If you ever meet my lover and she
C D
smiles, I wouldn't waste your time"
         G
He said "You stay out of your life and,
C D
and I'll stay out of mine"
      G
"If I catch you with my girl again, then
C D
maybe next time I wont be so kind"
             C G/B Am
And when the sun come up, when the
C G/B Am C G/B Am
sun come up, when the sun come up,

(Pause - No chords)

Outro:
              G

C D
 I'll stay out of mine"
                    G

and I'll stay out of mine"

I'll stay out of mine" (Yes, yes, yes, yes)
G

sun comes up, when the sun come up,
            G
And she was mine.

Note from Carl Scott:
These are DEFINITELY the correct Lyrics
& chords - I E-mailed Greg Johnson himself,
and he sent me this reply.

"...Chords [you sent me] look pretty good,
if they sound odd at any point it's probably
the piano inversion, or perhaps a G with
an E on top [i.e]G6...when it descends...
oh yeah and the song is really as it appears,
a true story about talkin' shit with drunk
people in bars... bits of conversation etc..
Cheers, Greg."

NOTE: This is the transcriber's interpretation of the song and is not meant to be exact or replace an officially published transcription.
We would recommend purchasing the artists officially published transcription book here Fishpond.co.nz.
